The Municipal Military and Veterans Affairs Commission completed officer elections and began planning for Memorial Day and other events.
During nominations, Al and Olivia were put forward for vice chair. Members used a simple voting method and the tally reported in the meeting was five votes for Al and two for Olivia; Al was elected vice chair. Robert Eel was nominated for secretary and was confirmed after no further nominations were offered.
Commissioners then moved into planning for Memorial Day (May 25). Members discussed splitting responsibilities among committee members for parking, VIP signage and youth corps coordination, noted public-notice requirements for subcommittee meetings, and reviewed prior practice of coordinating with the mayor’s office for paperwork and invoicing. The board emphasized that some coordination tasks (for example, invoicing the mayor’s office for police overtime or porta-potties) would be suited to a treasurer or similar financial coordinator.
Chair David Foley and staff encouraged a workflow of short “sprints” between meetings for specific tasks and public notice for any committee meetings. Staff also offered to publicly notice the commission’s meetings for the year and to print templates and certificates for recognitions and outreach.
Next steps: Al will assume vice chair duties; commissioners will identify committee members for Memorial Day planning and consider creating a treasurer position to coordinate fund tracking and invoices with the mayor’s office and budget office.
