One commissioner noted the commission already has $4,400 toward the project and recommended the board still ask for the full $28,000 so the funder can decide how to allocate any additional money.
Eleanor, who reviewed grant guidelines during the meeting, said the board should read the foundation’s tiers to ensure the memorial project fits the funder’s mission and avoid applying under an inapplicable category. "My recommendation would be for the board to read through these guidelines and then to determine if any of these actually apply to the airport memorial," she said.
Laurel, who handles submission logistics, clarified her role: she will submit the application but the board is responsible for the project details and any supporting documentation. She offered to print the program guidelines for the commissioners to review before the application is finalized.
A motion was made to request $28,000 and was seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice/hand vote. Members instructed staff to prepare the application package, indicate that $4,400 has already been received, and forward the completed materials for the commission’s final review before formal submission. Staff also noted the application will be considered by the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council at its upcoming meeting.
