County says tennis-court grant paperwork doesn’t list the county; DNR, UW System consulted

A DNR contact told staff there are different options depending on whether the county is legally responsible.
"We are not the only entity to question who's liable for that grant," a staff member said. Staff said they are coordinating with the UW System attorney and a DNR specialist to determine whether the county must assume responsibility, and they are exploring donor support to offset potential costs. Options discussed include taking over and renovating the courts, removing them, or repurposing space for other community uses such as pickleball or green space.
Staff reported that the courts have been chained off because the fencing is unsafe and that an inspection report was filed. No final legal determination was given at the meeting; staff said they would return with additional information after consulting the UW System and DNR.
