Council member Katie Melendez rode along with Vista public works crews to observe how crews repair potholes and to remind drivers to slow down for worker safety.
Melendez opened the ride-along by identifying herself as a council member with the city of Vista and introducing two crew members, saying she was "riding along with public works today." A public works staff member described the repair steps during the demonstration: "Well, first we clean the area first using the blower ... second, we use the cold packs to make sure we fill that hole in and then we compact it with the tamper at the end and then we clean up after that," the worker said.
The demonstration showed a quick, routine repair cycle: clearing debris, filling the depression with cold-mix material and compacting it. Melendez and crew members noted the speed of the repair on site.
Melendez urged motorists to drive slowly near work crews to keep them safe and told residents how to report problem pavement: through the AccessVista mobile app or at vista.gov. No policy actions, votes or funding decisions were made during the ride-along; the event was an on-site demonstration and public information effort.
The demonstration and remarks were limited to the ride-along; Melendez did not announce any new initiatives during the visit.
