The Galena City School District board unanimously approved the 2025–26 school calendar after staff outlined start dates and options for scheduling parent-teacher conferences.
As presented, the school year would begin Monday, Aug. 8, with institute days for staff on Aug. 14–15. Staff discussed two scheduling approaches for parent-teacher conferences: offering consecutive Wednesdays for early elementary grades (to ease scheduling for families with multiple students) or running back-to-back Wednesday/Thursday sessions for grades 6–12. Board members said the difference would not affect the state-approved calendar but might improve scheduling flexibility for families and staff.
The calendar includes a two-week winter break, a one-week spring break and an early end date near Memorial Day as in previous years. The board approved the calendar by roll call without amendment.
