East Hartford Public Schools outlines AI roadmap and personalized professional learning

Anna Cabobianco, the district’s supervisor of professional learning and evaluation, told the board the district is shifting toward a personalized-growth pathway model and a strategic, equity-centered AI integration roadmap for pre-K–12 educators.
Cabobianco said the personalized pathway model aligns teacher professional learning with individual educator goals and the district’s educator evaluation system. She reported that more than 80% of educators attended at least one district professional learning session this year, and that the district is piloting an evaluation system in partnership with the State Department of Education.
On AI, Cabobianco said East Hartford was one of seven districts selected last year for a state-supported AI pilot. The district purchased Magic School platform licenses for teachers and students using grant funding. She outlined five steps in the AI rollout, including AI fundamentals for teachers, student-facing tools, AI responsibility and ethical guidelines, a districtwide keynote with EdAdvance on classroom shifts, and work on AI-durable assignments to preserve academic integrity.
A board member asked about the financial impact of AI; the superintendent said a grant of about $100,000 covered much of the initial implementation. Cabobianco said the district plans to embed ISTE standards and AI literacy into curriculum and professional learning in 2026–27.
Cabobianco characterized the district’s progress as positioning East Hartford “at the forefront” of AI integration while emphasizing equity and student well-being.
