Senate committee advances bill offering optional municipal property-tax exemptions to spur housing

The Senate State Affairs Committee advanced a committee substitute for HB 13, a proposal to allow optional municipal property-tax exemptions intended to help spur housing.
Kyle Johansen, staff to Representative Andrew Gray, told the committee HB 13 initially included five optional municipal exemptions to incentivize housing development. He said the chair added language from the Alaska Municipal League addressing charges for tax overpayments, which appear in sections 3 and 4 of the CS.
Senator Tilton moved that SCS for CS for HB 13 (work draft 34-LS-0194/W) be reported out of committee with individual recommendations and the attached fiscal note. With no objections the committee reported the bill out. Committee paperwork will be signed after the meeting.
