Arborist asks council to back MNCPPC technical assistance for city tree inventory and urban-forest plan

City arborist David Wigglesworth asked the Council to back a proposal for a city tree inventory and urban-forest master plan. Wigglesworth said the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (MNCPPC) has offered to help through its Planning Assistance to Municipalities (PAMC) program and that MNCPPC expects a council resolution endorsing the project.
"They will need a resolution from you all to support this project," Wigglesworth said, asking the Council to approve a formal request so MNCPPC can proceed with scope and funding development. Staff estimated the MNCPPC-supported project could be written at roughly $80,000, though the final amount will depend on bids and the agreed scope.
Councilmembers signaled support and asked staff to bring a resolution and the grant details back for formal approval and to explore how a master plan could help unlock planting funds and county fee-in-lieu resources for future canopy work.
