Tooele County Council on Feb. 17 ratified County Manager Andy Welch's appointment of Wayne Jones to serve as the county's justice court judge following the December 2025 retirement of the prior judge.
A selection committee reviewed applications and forwarded candidates to the county manager, who conducted interviews and appointed Jones. Jones, who is currently an assistant attorney general for the state, introduced family members present and told the council he was honored by the appointment and "pledge[d] to serve honorably." County Attorney Scott Broadhead spoke in support of Jones, describing his long acquaintance and legal experience.
Councilman Ty Hoffman moved to ratify the appointment; Councilman Stroberg seconded. The council voted unanimously in favor. Staff noted Jones must complete required state training and pass an exam before beginning the position.
