The Clawson Downtown Development Authority on Feb. 25 moved to finalize and forward a revised job description for a DDA director, clarifying supervisory language and benefits so the position meets accreditation expectations.
Board members identified conflicting phrasing in the draft: the general statement of duties said the director would serve 'under the direction of the city manager and in support of the DDA,' while an essential duties bullet used slightly different wording reading 'under the direction and supervision of the city manager and the DDA.' Members agreed to reconcile the language to match the general statement and the memo of understanding previously executed with the city manager.
Members also requested minor edits to the minimum qualifications and benefits language: the draft will explicitly reference a Michigan driver's license where appropriate and clarify that employee benefits are administered through the city. The board noted the current temporary title 'DDA liaison' will be updated to 'DDA director' to meet accreditation expectations about position titling and duties.
After discussion the board made and seconded a motion to approve the revised description as edited and to authorize the DDA liaison to forward the job description to city council for review and consideration. The motion carried by voice vote; a formal written motion and the revised job description will be transmitted to council for action.
Next steps: staff will produce the edited job description for distribution to council and include the memorandum of understanding references and the clarified benefits language.
