Council approves John Deere tractor for parks to support motocross and rodeo events

Tooele County Council on Feb. 17 approved the purchase of a John Deere tractor for the county parks and recreation department to support motocross tracks, barrel races and rodeos and to serve as a replacement for aging equipment.
County staff said the tractor was procured through a state contract and is included in the 2026 capital budget. Corey, a parks operations staffer, told the council the machine will speed event turnarounds and help manage drainage at the Desert Peak motocross area, which acts as a retention basin during heavy rains.
Councilman Ty Hoffman questioned why the item was being discussed if it was already approved; the chair and staff confirmed the procurement follows the budget authorization. Councilman Thomas moved to approve the purchase; Councilman Stroberg seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The county did not provide an equipment model number or final vendor invoice during the meeting; staff said procurement followed state contract pricing and capital funds were budgeted for the purchase.
