After executive session, Florence School District One offers student virtual option and probation in discipline appeal

The Florence School District One Board of Trustees met in executive session to hear a student disciplinary appeal and returned to open session with a motion to offer the student enrollment options and conditions.
Chair Mr. Stewart said the board had been in executive session to discuss the appeal and reported that no action was taken in executive session. He offered a motion that the student "be offered the option in consultation with administration to enroll in a South Carolina approved virtual program." Mr. Stewart further specified that the student could reenroll in the home school for the remainder of the academic year upon satisfactorily meeting academic requirements, but would be placed on probation and required to participate in weekly school-based counseling as a condition for reenrollment. The motion was seconded and approved by the board in open session. The chair stated the action was the board’s decision following the appeal discussion and did not identify the student. No additional disciplinary details or student-identifying information were disclosed in open session.
