Florence School District One approves 2026–27 calendar, routine consent items and shifts January meeting

The Florence School District One Board of Trustees approved routine consent items and adopted the district’s proposed 2026–27 calendar.
Chair Mr. Stewart called for approval of four consent items—financial statements, Nov. 13 meeting minutes, the personnel sheet and one field-trip request—and the board approved the motion after it was moved and seconded without items being pulled. (Mr. Stewart)
Dr. Omali presented the proposed 2026–27 calendar. "For 26 27 school year, the first day for staff would be the 22nd of July. For students, it would be the 29th of July," Dr. Omali said. The calendar also designates Nov. 3 as an election day holiday, schedules an October intersession Oct. 12–16 and a February intersession Feb. 15–19, sets a half day on Dec. 18 before winter break, and lists graduations on May 25–26 with the school year ending May 26, 2027. During discussion one board member asked whether the district could label the midwinter break "Christmas" instead of "winter break." The chair and others noted the calendar language as presented; the motion to adopt the calendar carried. (Board member)
Separately, Dr. Ali requested a change to the board calendar: moving the January meeting from Thursday, Jan. 8 to Thursday, Jan. 15 to allow staff additional time after the holiday break. The board moved, seconded and approved that scheduling change. (Dr. Ali)
The board approved the calendar and the consent agenda and then proceeded to executive session later in the meeting.
