Florence School District One recognizes staff and dozens of student-athletes at board meeting

Trustees honored two staff members with Transition Alliance awards and celebrated a wide range of fall athletic honors across the district, naming multiple all-state and region champions, coaches of the year and state champions.
The Florence School District One Board of Trustees opened its meeting by recognizing staff and student-athletes for fall achievements.
Board members presented Transition Alliance of South Carolina honors to two district staff: Rachel McGee, in her first year as an instructor in the district’s Project SEARCH program, was named rookie of the year; Cassandra Sheller, the district’s transition coordinator, was named to the Transition Alliance hall of fame. Both received applause from the assembly. Rachel McGee said, "Thank you." (Rachel McGee)
The board also honored numerous athletic accomplishments across district high schools, naming all-state and region champions, players of the year and coaches of the year. Among those recognized were McCall Greg (South Florence volleyball, 4A all-state and region 54A player of the year), Shelby White (West Florence tennis, 5A tennis player of the year), Coach Abby Sullivan (region 55A coach of the year and leader of the program’s first girls tennis state championship), Susie Martinez (West Florence cross country, 5A division 2 state champion), and Coach Christopher Dale (region 55 5A golf coach of the year). Athletic director Cody Slaughter was cited during the recognitions.
The board applauded student and coach awardees from South Florence, West Florence, Wilson High and other district programs for achievements that included state championships, region honors and selections to all-state teams.
The recognitions took place early in the meeting; trustees moved on to public participation and business items afterward.
