Pilgrim and Tollgate projects on track; committee schedules special meeting to review CD packet

Project staff updated the committee on high-school construction projects and said Pilgrim High School remains on budget and on schedule for the next design review.
Mr Bates told the committee the Pilgrim design team had a final design progress review scheduled with the School Building Authority and that draft cost estimates for the 60% drawings remained aligned with prior estimates. He said the team is studying a passive underslab radon mitigation system, an option that is less expensive to install now than to retrofit post-construction.
Architects are also evaluating whether both high-school gyms can be enlarged within existing footprints to provide NCAA-size basketball courts, an adjustment that would add roughly 5 feet on each side of the court if feasible and not materially increase cost. Mr Bates said bid competition to date has produced numerous bidders (12 respondents for a recent steel bid), which the project team said generally lowers prices.
A special school-committee meeting was scheduled for March 19 at 5:30 p.m. to review the construction documents and the bid packet for Pilgrim; the building committee will hold a morning session the same day. Officials said third-party estimates required by RIDE are forthcoming and that administration will provide CD packets to committee members in advance to allow review before the special meeting.
