Regents approve faculty awards, research grants and promotions across CSCU campuses

The Board of Regents Committee on Academic and Student Affairs on May 1 approved several personnel and recognition items across Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU), including Board of Regents faculty awards, campus research-grant allocations, and promotions and tenure recommendations.
Vice Chancellor Ainsley Dimon told the committee the Board of Regents faculty awards — established by resolution in 2013 — will recognize 32 recipients and six system award winners at an awards ceremony on May 28. “We have so much to celebrate today,” Dimon said.
Provost Jeremy Castellas (Central Connecticut State University) summarized that Central’s faculty-research funding totals $395,000 supporting 99 faculty researchers across five academic schools, with projects ranging from laboratory science to applied research and scholarship that includes AI-focused work.
Provosts from Eastern, Southern and Western described representative projects: Eastern highlighted faculty-monograph and native-plant propagation projects and strong undergraduate engagement, Southern noted projects spanning AI, healthcare and cultural history, and Western reported 35 projects totaling about $200,000 that support pre‑tenure faculty and seed external funding efforts.
The committee also voted to approve promotions and tenure recommendations from the four state universities. Central’s provost reported multiple promotions (including a reported cohort of 24 faculty promoted to full professor and other promotions and tenure actions) and provosts highlighted faculty contributions to teaching, research and student mentorship.
Regents emphasized publicizing these achievements so students and the public can learn about faculty expertise. Regent Cummings asked staff to explore ways to make final reports and project outcomes more accessible to students and the community.
All listed awards, grants and personnel actions were approved by the committee by voice vote and will be recorded in the board record.
