Superintendent Kelly Cox briefed the board on the district’s response to recent hurricane-related outages and community impacts. She said initial assessments showed just over 1,700 students (about 35%) without power; later assessments showed about 1,200 students (about 24%) without power. As of the reported noon update, the superintendent said 268 students (a little over 5%) and 21 staff (about 2%) remained without power.
Cox thanked maintenance staff, custodians, and local utility partners (York Electric and Duke Energy) for restoration work, highlighted that meals were provided at multiple school sites for families without power, and said principals would work with families still affected. She also noted the district will reschedule a previously planned teacher-and-staff recognition dinner that had been affected by venue availability.
Board members and the superintendent praised staff efforts; the superintendent said the district would continue to monitor and support affected students and staff.
