At its Aug. 18 meeting, the San Felipe‑Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District board took several formal actions: it approved resolutions to authorize the public sale of two struck‑off properties under Texas Property Tax Code §34.01(c), approved a contract for leadership coaching, adopted policy updates and the student code of conduct, approved a concussion oversight team roster, authorized a fencing change order, designated the district chief financial officer to calculate tax rates and approved multiple personnel actions.
Property sale resolutions: Outside counsel Sonia Gonzalez told trustees the district had two struck‑off properties that required board consideration because offers were below the statutory minimum. For cause number 333440 (two accounts in Vega Verde Estates, Block H, sold together) the district reported a minimum bid amount of $8,000 per account but stated it had received a bid to cover only court costs ($874) from the county; total taxes due on the parcels were reported at approximately $8,400. For cause number 29721 the property had been reduced previously to a $5,000 minimum and the district received a $1,000 bid; both items were brought forward for board action and the resolutions were approved.
Contracts and change orders: The board approved a contract with Steampport Leadership Coaching not to exceed $88,552 (fund 255 Title II Part A) to support principal and teacher coaching. The board also approved a Claw Contractors LLC change order not to exceed $50,368.54 to complete fencing and gates at Garfield Middle School.
Policy and student code: Trustees approved a first and final reading of TASB‑localized policy manual updates and adopted the 2025 student code of conduct and a local policy addressing personal communication devices. The board also approved the district’s concussion oversight team roster as required by Education Code 38.153 to develop return‑to‑play protocols.
Tax and waivers: Administration recommended and the board approved a resolution designating the district chief financial officer to calculate the no‑new‑revenue tax rate and the voter‑approval tax rate. The board also authorized submission of TEA applications for certification waivers as discussed in closed session.
Personnel: Following closed session, the board approved resignations, retirements and new personnel including Amanda Flores (special education teacher), Melanie Rodriguez (math teacher, Garfield Middle), Jordan Esparza (science teacher, Del Rio Middle), Isaiah Lozano (PE teacher) and approvals for a behavior specialist and an assistant principal appointment.
Votes at a glance: motions were adopted without recorded dissent across consent, contracts, policy adoptions, property sale resolutions, change orders and personnel actions; minutes record each item as carried unanimously.
