Aransas Pass ISD trustees approve insurance renewal, internet contract and $41,600 classroom donation

The Aransas Pass ISD Board of Trustees on Feb. 10 approved a series of operational measures, including the district's 2025–26 property and casualty insurance renewal, a new internet services contract and a $41,600 pass-through donation for classroom smartboards.
Chase Carile of Carlile Insurance told trustees the renewal produced “some favorable results” that reduced the district's overall insurance cost by about $216,000. "Y'all's property rate was reduced 22% from what we paid last year," Carile said, and he noted an increase in insured replacement valuations of roughly $5.3 million. He also described a change in deductible structure for wind, hail and named-storm coverage from a per-location approach to a per-building basis and said the minimum named-storm deductible had been cut from about $1.3 million to $650,000.
After the presentation, trustees voted to accept the insurance renewal. The board also approved awarding Frontier Southwest the district's leased internet access contract; trustees said the district plans to move from a copper line arrangement to two fiber feeds to improve reliability and that the district typically receives E-rate reimbursement for a large portion of broadband costs.
Trustees unanimously approved a $41,600 pass-through grant from the Janet and Bob Laugher Family Charitable Foundation to the APISD Education Foundation to purchase smartboards, and they approved a related budget amendment (Budget Amendment No. 8) to reflect the donation. The board also approved a resolution to pay staff for a weather-related closure on Jan. 21, 2025, and authorized submission of a low-attendance waiver to the Texas Education Agency for the Jan. 22 delayed start so the district will be paid at its regular attendance rate.
