CMCSS announces Freedom Elementary opening in August 2026, outlines multi-year school construction plans

Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder said district leadership is working with Montgomery County government leaders to secure land for future school sites and outlined estimated timelines for additional facilities: two new elementary schools with estimated opening dates in 2029 and 2031, and long-term planning for a combined middle and high school campus in the mid-2030s.
She also described ongoing enhancements at St Bethlehem Early Learning Center that are already underway to expand learning opportunities for the 2025–26 school year and said design work is in progress on the Burt Innovation Center to support transformative learning environments.
The operations team, she said, remains focused on supporting innovative schools and the district’s 35 Career and Technical Education pathways and programs of study, with facility upgrades aimed at ensuring students have the quality resources to explore interests and develop skills.
