Fairfield board approves first readings of policy updates, adopts 2024–25 textbooks and approves personnel recommendations

At the Aug. 20 Fairfield County Board of Trustees meeting, board members completed several routine but consequential items of business.
Policy revisions: Dr. Campbell presented proposed first‑reading revisions to Board Policy BH (public participation at meetings) and Board Policy JIC (code of conduct). Miss Harrison moved to accept the superintendent’s recommendation for first reading; Dr. Harris seconded the motion and the board approved the first reading by voice/raise of hands. The action was a first reading; additional board action is required before final adoption.
Instructional materials: The board approved the superintendent’s recommendations for district instructional materials and textbooks for the 2024–25 school year, including selections for chemistry, physics and world history courses. The motion to accept the recommendations was made by Miss Green and seconded by Mr Pastor Jaon and carried by the board.
Human resources and minutes: On motions by Miss Harrison (seconded by Mr Davis), the board approved certified resignations and terminations as outlined in Exhibit 1A and accepted certified educator recommendations for the 2024–25 academic year as shown in Exhibits 2A and 2B. The board also approved the minutes of the July 16 regular board meeting earlier in the agenda.
Finance: Mr Robinson presented the July finance report as an information item; he said the fiscal year is in its first month with limited activity and that district auditors are scheduled to review records in October with a projected final closeout by late October or early November.
Board members offered brief reports and welcomed new staff introduced during the superintendent’s report. Miss Harrison moved to adjourn; Mr Davis seconded and the meeting adjourned.
