The Frederick County School Board Finance Committee on Oct. 13 voted to forward to the full board a resolution that would allow the division to spend Virginia Public School Authority educational-technology funds now and reimburse those expenditures when the state grant is received in April.
Ms. Anderson explained the resolution lets the division make purchases now and seek reimbursement later because the state distributes the VPSA technology funds in April, which can make it difficult to spend the money before the fiscal year ends. The budgeted total for this allocation is $570,000; Ms. Anderson said $544,000 is for Frederick County schools and $26,000 is for NREP. The funds are intended for networking equipment, Chromebooks and laptops.
A committee member moved to forward the resolution to the full board and another committee member seconded. The motion passed by voice vote; the transcript records successive "Aye" responses but does not show an individual roll-call, so individual names for the votes were not recorded in the meeting transcript. If approved by the full board, Finance and IT staff plan to document purchases and submit reimbursement requests when the state grant is received in April.
No amendments were made at the Finance Committee meeting. The committee’s action sends the reimbursement authorization to the full board for final approval.
