Park County praise for IT safeguards as Mako pauses cyber product after low signup

Mako representatives said they developed a cyber insurance product but did not roll it out because too few counties that initially expressed interest met the controls required for participation. "We started putting it together. We got it together. And then once it was time for the counties to sign up ... we didn't have anybody really sign up for it," the presenter said.
Park County participants noted strong existing IT protections, including multifactor authentication and other controls, and described planned employee cyber training. One participant cited a recent Livingston Hospital incident that disrupted operations for several days as a cautionary example of the operational impacts a breach can cause.
Why it matters: counties with stronger IT controls are better candidates for pooled cyber coverage; low uptake means Mako paused the rollout but left the option open if more members meet required controls. Park County staff said they will continue internal training and coordinate with Mako if the product is relaunched.
