The Nacogdoches City Council unanimously approved a contract on Nov. 5 to buy 65 body cameras and associated docking and evidence‑management equipment from Motorola Solutions in a five‑year agreement totaling $379,490.
Chief of Police presented the request and said the department had identified $150,000 in existing budget and reimbursements to apply as a down payment; that reduced the annual payment schedule. The department also described plans to migrate video evidence to cloud storage. "Once it offloads to the evidence library it will reside inside the Azure Government Cloud per the police department's retention policies," said Blake Galloway, Motorola Solutions regional account manager. He added: "There's a total of approximately 50 hours of onboard storage on each camera."
Staff told council the maintenance agreement will cost about $50,000 per year after the initial funding and that the system includes docks in patrol cars and multi‑bay docking stations at the department to ensure regular offload and upload. Council approved the purchase and contract by motion.
Next steps: procurement and deployment planning, equipment installation and configuration with cloud retention policies to be implemented by the police department and IT staff.
