"Well, I'm certainly humbled," Dr. Jesus Armas said as he accepted the recognition, reflecting on relationships he built across schools and staff. "I just think it's a relationship business," he added, describing mentorship and community ties as the most important parts of his work.
The proclamation, read aloud by board leadership, noted Armas’s 32 years in the Palm Beach County School District and cited his role strengthening academic programs and partnerships between the schools and the village. Colleagues offered testimonials during the meeting: Dr. Brad Johnson, who identified himself as a 25-year teacher at Royal Palm Beach High School, said it had "been a pleasure to work for him" and praised Armas’s support and mentorship.
Mayor Jeff Amara and other presenters pointed to programmatic outcomes that Armas helped foster. The mayor highlighted recent Navy JROTC achievements, including three Navy ROTC scholarships awarded this year, each described during the meeting as valued at $200,000, and noted a graduate bound for the U.S. Naval Academy.
Board members and district staff, including current and former principals and teachers, delivered personal accounts of Armas’s leadership and the ways he shaped local school culture. The board invited Armas to the front for a photograph after the proclamation and several speakers emphasized his role growing future school leaders.
The proclamation and public tributes mark the village’s formal recognition of Dr. Armas’s career and the community’s appreciation; village leaders said they will continue partnerships between the schools and the village that Armas helped strengthen.
