Oregon School Board approves 2025–26 calendar, delays Monday late starts until Jan. 5, 2026

The calendar was presented to the board as a recommendation from the Policy Committee. Board member Heather Garrison moved an initial amendment to delay implementation of the one-hour Monday late starts until the 2026–2027 school year; that motion failed on a 3-4 roll call vote with Garrison, Dr. Mary Lokuta and Board President Krista Flanagan voting yes and Ahna Bizjak, Dr. Caleb Bush, Troy Pankratz and Leslie Wright voting no.
Garrison then moved a second amendment to set the implementation date as Jan. 5, 2026; that amendment passed 5-2 (yes: Garrison, Wright, Lokuta, Pankratz, Flanagan; no: Bizjak, Bush). Following that amendment, Dr. Lokuta moved and Dr. Bush seconded approval of Calendar A incorporating the Jan. 5, 2026 start date and the added professional development day on April 20, 2026. The final motion passed unanimously, 7-0, by roll call vote.
Board members who opposed the first amendment did not prevail in delaying the start to 2026–27; the record shows the board chose a compromise of a midyear start in 2026 combined with a dedicated PD day in April.
