The board received a finance update noting sizable June expenditures and a staffing update that highlighted ongoing hiring challenges.
Finance staff said the district’s June material expenses ran a little south of $1.7 million, driven in part by a payment to Amplify Education of just over $500,000 for a five‑year textbook contract (CK program). The presenter said most of that cost will be covered by ESSER funds, which expire on Sept. 30 of the current fiscal year, and projected an estimated year‑end favorable balance of about $600,000 (preliminary estimate).
Personnel staff reported two retirements, several resignations and multiple pending appointments including special‑education teachers, secretaries, custodians and long‑term substitutes; staff said three full‑time positions remain open and that the district is conducting interviews for supervisor of special education. Board members asked personnel to increase outreach via social media and classifieds to fill vacancies.
Communications staff recommended awarding a contract to Vision Media Photography for services at up to 40 events and to support an internship and training program; board members said sample work in the hallway and yearbook photos were impressive.
Next steps: finance will present the two accounts‑payable items for approval next week, personnel will continue recruitment and report back on hires, and communications staff will finalize the photography contract.
