Parents of children who ride Bus 11 told the board they have endured ongoing bullying and described a recent incident in which a student brought a BB gun onto the bus and into school. One parent said they did not receive timely notification from the district: “I didn’t get a notification until an hour later,” the parent said, and argued the delay left families and students frightened.
Parents said this was not an isolated disciplinary issue but the culmination of bullying that persisted across two school years, and they asked what steps the district will take to prevent recurrence and to ensure student safety on buses. They requested better communication, greater follow‑up and clarity about how the district disciplines repeat offenders.
District leaders acknowledged shortcomings in the speed of notification and described steps already taken. Dr. Roland said the district conducted an after‑action review with the bus company and administrative teams to identify communication gaps and operational changes. He apologized for the timing of follow‑up contacts and said, “I probably should have called you on Monday instead of Tuesday,” and committed to using after‑action reviews to make process improvements for faster, accurate communication in chaotic incidents.
Board members expressed sympathy and said the district will continue to evaluate transportation protocols and communications with families. Administrators said they will follow up with the families directly and with the bus company to implement procedural changes where needed.
