Engineering staff told the board that VDOT’s Jefferson Park and Middle Road roundabout project will require adjustments to water and wastewater infrastructure located within the project footprint. Staff said VDOT will bear 100% of the relocation costs and the county must pass a resolution allowing the county administrator to sign the necessary agreement documents to permit the work.
County staff explained the replacement pipe will match existing capacity and materials (ductile iron) so no loss of capacity is expected and service interruptions are to be avoided by building the new line before tying in at both ends. The board discussed which areas the lines serve and staff said the 16-inch water line along Jefferson Park serves the courthouse area down to South Pointe and that the 12-inch line slated for relocation serves Middle Road.
A motion to approve the resolution authorizing the agreement with VDOT passed by roll call, and staff said VDOT will schedule and construct the relocations as the roundabout work proceeds.
