Elections officials ask board to advertise public hearing to move Reeves precinct to Sacred Heart Church citing ADA access and traffic-safety gains
Summary
The electoral board asked the county to advertise a public hearing to relocate Reeves Precinct (No. 104) from the Central Wellness Center to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, arguing the church site is closer to 95% of precinct voters, offers better ADA access and safer traffic flow; the board authorized the resolution to advertise the public hearing.

The Prince George electoral board requested that the Board of Supervisors authorize a resolution to advertise a public hearing on relocating Reeves Precinct (No. 104) from the Central Wellness Center to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Janice Gano, chair of the county electoral board, explained the move is motivated by proximity and safety: about 95% of precinct voters live west of I-295 and Sacred Heart is closer to that population; the central wellness center sits outside the precinct boundary and is closer to only 5% of voters. Gano described traffic concerns at the wellness center — limited parking, a single door entry/exit in the gym, steep ADA ramp and curbside voting that is out of sight of election officers — and contrasted those with double-door entry, level handicap access and clearer curbside visibility at the church.
Elections staff also described lower setup costs at the church (a flat $200 per election) versus repeated staff setup and teardown demands at the county-owned wellness center. After the presentation the board voted to authorize a resolution to advertise the public hearing.
"What we're requesting is that the Board of Supervisors authorize a resolution so we can conduct a public hearing to locate the Reeves 104 Precinct to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church," Janice Gano told the board. She said the church offers better parking, level access and sightlines for curbside voting.
