Franklin Park trustees report two main breaks, 15 leaks found and repaired after 87 miles of leak detection

Deputy Village President and Water & Sewer chair Irene Avitia reported a series of operational water-system updates at the April 20 Franklin Park board meeting.
Avitia said crews responded to two recent main breaks and replaced one lead service in the village. She listed specific hydrant repairs at 25th and Franklin Avenue, a valve-box reset and repair at 11222 Melrose, and a hydrant leak repaired at Shirley and Nona. She also said Pump 3 has been returned to service.
Avitia briefed trustees on the village’s leak-detection program: contractor M.E. Simpson covered 87 miles of water main and located 15 leaks; according to her report all 15 leaks have been repaired. She added that M.E. Simpson is performing hydrant flushing in the middle of town as part of maintenance work.
Other updates included delivery and staging of a new generator for King Street, placement of a new generator on a concrete pad at Clearing, and seasonal crew activity: staff picked up 22 bags of garbage, the grass crew has resumed work, and rainfall totals were 4.1 inches in March and 1.8 inches through 20 days of April.
Avitia also noted Ferrero Candy will hold a dedication ceremony for a new production line.
