Gosper County commissioners renew weed superintendent agreement and employee insurance, approve routine business

The Gosper County Board of Commissioners met May 13, 2026, in Elwood and approved a series of routine items, including renewing an interlocal agreement for weed control and county employee health and dental insurance plans.
Chairperson Terry Lerdall called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., confirmed that public notice had been published in the Valley Voice and posted on the county website and courthouse bulletin board on April 30, 2026, and noted that a copy of the Nebraska Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room.
The board approved the minutes of April 29, 2026 on a motion by Commissioner Bruce Bader, seconded by Commissioner Glenn Hofman; Chairperson Terry Lerdall and both commissioners voted aye.
Kevin Hagan, Dawson/Gosper County Weed Superintendent, presented a weed report. The board approved Resolution No. 26-6 renewing the annual agreement with Dawson County for the Dawson County Weed Superintendent to continue serving Gosper County with no changes to the agreement or cost. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Commissioner Bader, seconded by Commissioner Hofman; the roll call vote was recorded as aye by Lerdall, Bader and Hofman.
On a motion by Commissioner Glenn Hofman, seconded by Commissioner Bader, the board approved the Clerk of the District Court report for April 2026; the roll call recorded all three commissioners voting aye.
The board also approved a request from the Elwood Chamber to use the east side of the courthouse lawn for Community Garage Sales scheduled for June 5–6, 2026. That motion was made by Commissioner Bader and seconded by Chairperson Lerdall; the roll call vote was aye by all members.
The board reviewed renewal proposals from NACO for employee coverage. Commissioner Bader moved, Commissioner Hofman seconded, and the board voted to renew Gosper County’s employee health insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield and the group dental contract with Delta Dental of Nebraska, both effective July 1, 2026; the roll call vote was recorded as aye by Lerdall, Bader and Hofman.
Sheriff Joshua Richie, accompanied by Roger Powell and RaNaye Dunlap of Furnas County Emergency Management, provided an update on revisions to the Local Emergency Operations Plan. Jerad Reimers, district coordinator for Representative Adrian Smith, gave a brief district office update. Assistant Highway Superintendent Kelly Lehmann presented a road report. The minutes record these updates were given but do not list substantive changes or directives in this segment.
The meeting adjourned at 11:10 a.m. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for May 27, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Gosper County Courthouse in Elwood.
