Board approves removal of Historical overlay for Lonnie Bell Estate property

The Heard County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on May 21 to remove the Historical overlay from a 3.5-acre parcel known as the Lonnie Bell Estate at 33 Salem Road. The request was made by executor Leopold Fritz Joh; Joh requested that William C. Heard speak on behalf of the estate.
William C. Heard said Salem Church is interested in purchasing the property. Paige Harrod, speaking on behalf of the Historical Society, told the board the society supported removing the overlay. County Attorney Michael Hill read the relevant ordinance into the record before the board’s unanimous vote to approve the application.
The vote removes the historical designation from the property; the board did not record additional conditions on the approval during the meeting.
