Claire Harris and Chris Drew sworn in as Flower Mound council members; council honors Anne Martin

Claire Harris and Chris Drew were administered the oath of office at a Flower Mound Town Council meeting, joining the dais as council members for Place 5 and Place 2.

The oaths were conducted by Tracy, who led the statutory statements and the candidates repeated the required language under the town’s oath. Afterward, both new members and their supporters posed for photographs and offered brief remarks highlighting priorities and gratitude.

The meeting opened with two public commentators who paid tribute to outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Anne Martin. Joseph Martin, who introduced himself as a longtime former Flower Mound resident now living in Dallas, presented a gift and said he had inscribed a pen with the Latin phrase “Memento res publica,” urging elected officials to remember public service. "Memento res publica," Joseph Martin said.

Scott Langley, a Flower Mound resident, also praised Anne Martin’s service, telling the council that "you were our voice" and thanking her for her leadership during policy debates.

Anne Martin delivered extended closing remarks reflecting on six years on the council, thanking staff and colleagues and describing the recent period as "Camelot years," a phrase she used to characterize the council’s collaborative energy and accomplishments. She said she plans to remain involved in the community through the Friends of the Flower Mound Library and a new arts nonprofit.

Chris Drew, after taking the oath, thanked residents for their support and listed priorities including fiscal restraint, protecting neighborhoods from large warehouse development, expanding parks and trails, and supporting public safety projects such as Fire Station 6. "Over the next 3 years, I will continue fighting for our residents," Drew said.

Claire Harris, in her first remarks as a council member, thanked voters and emphasized local priorities such as maintaining low taxes, preserving the Cross Timbers Conservation District and protecting the town’s tree canopy. She told the council she has "no aspirations for county, state or other partisan office" and that her focus is local service.

The council recessed for five minutes following the oath proceedings and then returned to complete other agenda business.
