Lake County Schools honors teachers and reports year-end gains; district cites new STEM lab and grants

The Lake County Schools board set aside time May 11 to recognize teachers across the district and to hear a year-end update from district staff.
Multiple school presenters acknowledged Green and Gold Apple award winners, naming recipients at Margaret Newton and Lake County High School, and praising their classroom work and student impact. School staff recognized first-year and veteran teachers for creativity, interventions and leadership in areas such as AI curriculum integration and a freshman "50-challenge" reading program.
In the superintendent-style staff report that followed, staff said second-grade testing and literacy work showed growth since August, the district opened a new STEM lab with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and that 100 students had registered for preschool and kindergarten after registration events. Staff also reported a $10,000 learning-environment grant award to support student spaces and a partnership with the Tennessee Department of Health that provided dental sealants to 39 students (staff characterized the value of that dental work at about $5,500). The report included a schedule of end-of-year events: awards night, baccalaureate and graduation dates.
Board members and staff lauded teachers and staff for testing coordination and student supports; the board thanked presenters for their work.
