Madison County discusses Fairground Event Center plans after Army Corps permit

Madison County commissioners on April 27 discussed a proposed fairground event center that county staff say would serve indoor special events and provide covered and open space to house and show market animals during fair season. Grants Manager Shawna Lutgen told the board the project has received a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers and that staff are exploring several grant opportunities to help fund the facility.
Commissioner William A. Todd and Commissioner Duke W. Gilman questioned details of next steps; Lutgen said bid documents will be assembled and public notices published in May. The design team, represented at the meeting by Patricia Jacobs of Architecture Trio, discussed preconstruction coordination needs and indicated a preconstruction meeting with the contractor is being requested.
The board discussed intended uses for the building, including availability to civic groups such as Future Farmers of America and 4-H. No formal action, motion, or award was taken; staff said they will proceed with bid preparation and return with detailed procurement documents and grant applications for subsequent meetings.
