Staff also reported a call‑study that identified inactive lines previously paid for by the county; those lines are being disconnected to reduce costs.
Officials acknowledged the change required assigning new direct numbers for departments and urged a public information campaign — website banner, newspaper notice and printed lists at public counters — to ensure residents can reach departments. "We need to put more out there and put it in a newspaper," a commissioner said, noting some residents who rely on phone books and Google searches still see old numbers.
Staff said the legacy system included vendor‑specific phones that are outdated and will be offered for surplus sale; any proceeds will follow county surplus procedures. The commission carried the informational item forward for administrative follow up.
