Wausau School District committee elects officers, names delegates and recommends charter‑school contract to full board

The Wausau School District Committee of the Whole on April 27 completed organizational actions including elections, appointments and contract recommendations before adjourning to closed session.
The deputy clerk read a slate of leadership nominees. Following motions to close nominations and a voice vote, the committee reported the tabulated results: Jim Boucher elected board president; Lance Trollope elected vice president; Sarah Brock elected treasurer; and Corey Sellers elected clerk. The committee also appointed Cassie Peck to serve as board secretary and deputy clerk for the coming portion of meetings. Several delegates and representatives were named or reappointed, including Sarah Brock as the district delegate to the 2027 delegate assembly and John Kriescher as alternate delegate. Additional representative appointments were made to the Wausau School Foundation Board, WE CAN consortium, union negotiating committee and other bodies.
The committee received a presentation from Wausau Area Montessori (WAM) on its 20th anniversary and program highlights; the presenter described program growth, hands‑on Montessori curriculum aligned to state standards, extracurricular opportunities such as Model UN trips and community events. The committee voted to recommend the Wausau Area Charter School contract to the full board for approval.
Before adjourning, the chair moved to enter closed session citing two state statutes to permit preliminary discussion of potential litigation under Wis. Stat. 19.85; the motion carried after a roll call with committee members recorded as answering in the affirmative.
Next steps: The full board will consider the recommended charter contract at its next meeting and the administration will bring detailed budget staffing proposals back to the board in future sessions for formal action.
