A staff presenter said 4B funds since October 2024 have supported 317 spay/neuter procedures tied to shelter adoptions; additional grants from state sources and Petco Love (totaling $27,000) supported low-income residents’ pets. The presenter said earlier funds were strictly earmarked for adopted animals but the proposed allocation would make eligibility broader to any Harlingen resident within city limits.
A board member asked how many animals in total could still be served; staff said the total incoming/adoption numbers were not in the packet but offered to provide them to the board. After brief discussion, a motion to allocate $200,000 from fund balance to the expanded spay/neuter program was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Staff will follow up with requested intake statistics and continue program reporting to the board.
