Christy Wood, treasurer of the Alton Youth League, told the selectmen May 12 that the group has fundraised to replace the aging wooden Green Monster at Jones Field and seeks town help with logistics and limited site work.
Wood presented an itemized cost estimate: $66,307.56 for the Champion Wall system, $6,700 for a geotechnical survey (Terracon, Manchester) and $400 for private utility locating — a total project cost of $73,407.56. She said the Youth League will plan demolition and installation for the fall season and requested Public Works assistance for wall removal and access to the field when demolition is scheduled.
Public works staff (Seth) told the board the DPW can remove the wood wall, cut it into sections and place material in a roll‑off dumpster, and that they can manage the chain‑link portions with available equipment. "We can take the chain link off the top with the bucket truck... and then the wall itself, we can cut up into sections and put in a dumpster," Seth said.
The selectmen did not approve funding at the meeting but gave consensus to post the project for a public hearing so voters can review the plan and any request for town resources. Staff was asked to prepare a public hearing notice and the project packet for the board.
