Board previews Modern Learning math units; teacher leaders to present next week

A district curriculum presenter told the Conestoga Valley School District board on Oct. 14 that the Modern Learning curriculum project has produced stage-one math units for kindergarten through Algebra I and that teacher teams developed 264 units across grades K–9.
The presenter described the use of Understanding by Design (UBD) as the project framework and said stage one (desired results) is ready for public review on the district website. Stage two (assessments) and stage three (learning plans) are available internally; teacher leaders will appear at the next meeting to walk the board through the math design and supporting data.
Board members discussed the curriculum-development timeline, how MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) will address students who enter the district mid-year, and the project’s emphasis on cross-level teacher collaboration. The presenter said the district plans to adopt the math courses next Monday after board members have a week to review the posted documents.
Next steps: teacher leaders will present a deeper dive on the math units at the board’s next meeting; the board is scheduled to vote on math-course adoption at that meeting.
