Organizers for the Columbia firefighters parade told council the event is scheduled for June 6 in downtown Columbia as part of the borough’s 300th-anniversary events.
The parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. from the fire company and follow the borough’s designated route. Sponsors and organizers said the Westminster band from Maryland and the Columbia High School band will lead the first division and that about 10–12 fire departments and several antique fire trucks have registered. The event will include roughly 14 food trucks, booths, trophies presented at a post-parade ceremony, and a BrightSpeed-sponsored kids area with inflatables and giveaways.
Organizers named Elwood Tim Day as grand marshal and asked for volunteers for traffic and safety positions around intersections. They said they were still recruiting participants and would put out another registration blast if numbers did not increase. Council members encouraged outreach to schools and community groups to boost volunteer support and noted other anniversary activities are being planned through the summer.
