Grants update: Vernon County wins $238,000 PSAP grant; FEMA application planned

Amy Holte, grants department staff, told the committee Vernon County received a $238,000 PSAP grant to update the county 911 dispatch system, a joint effort among Grants, IT, the Sheriff’s office and Land Information. Holte said the award will fund dispatch upgrades.
Holte also said the county is preparing a $308,000 FEMA reimbursement application to cover COVID-related activities at Vernon Manor from July through December 2022; the application would reimburse 90% of eligible costs with a 10% local match. She reported that one property in Viola acquired through prior FEMA buyouts has been demolished and closed out, and the county will proceed with the remaining four buyout properties.
Holte updated the committee on the Micro-Enterprise Business Grant Program, noting six new applications with two pending and that the county will release an additional $20,000 back to the state. She said staff are also researching additional grant opportunities for solid waste/recycling, emergency management and IT departments.
The committee recorded the grants update for its minutes and directed staff to continue grant closeouts and applications as described.
