Vernon County committee approves coordinator contract, backs Energy Innovation Grant partnership
Summary
The Vernon County Economic Development Committee approved the Economic Development Coordinator contract through March 31, voted to bring a resolution supporting a county partnership on an Energy Innovation Grant, and approved routine vouchers at its Jan. 5 meeting.
Kay Stanek, chair of the Vernon County Economic Development Committee, called the Jan. 5 meeting to order and the committee took several administrative and programmatic actions.
The committee unanimously approved minutes from December and monthly vouchers from the Grants and Economic Development departments totaling $5,623.87. Lorn Goede moved to approve the vouchers and Karen Dahl seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Chair Stanek noted a discrepancy between the voucher amount for the January Economic Development Coordinator contract and the contract amount discussed later in the meeting and asked the committee to reconcile whether to continue 2022 compensation or use the 2023 budgeted amount.
Alicia Leinberger of the Vernon County Energy District asked that Vernon County be listed as a partner on an Energy Innovation Grant application to increase eligibility for funding; she said the partnership would impose no cost or responsibility on the county. Lorn Goede moved to bring a resolution to the Vernon County Board in support of listing the county as a partner, Katie Helseth seconded, and the committee voted unanimously to do so.
On the Economic Development Coordinator contract, the committee reviewed priorities for Jan. 1–March 31, 2023 and agreed to pay the monthly amount approved in the 2023 budget (a 4.5% increase over 2022). The committee appointed a subcommittee (Rod Ofte, committee vice chair; Gail Muller; and Lorn Goede) to meet about the contract after it expires on March 31. Christina Dollhausen, Vernon County economic development coordinator, will provide a summary of accomplishments since 2018 for the subcommittee’s reference. Lorn Goede moved to approve the contract as discussed; Tom Weston seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting closed with administrative items, including confirmed agenda items for the February meeting and adjournment by unanimous motion.
The committee did not publicly record vote counts for the unanimous votes; the minutes state only that motions were approved unanimously.
