Fernley council authorizes negotiations with Boys and Girls Club for early learning center

The Fernley City Council voted 5–0 on Aug. 20 to adopt Resolution 25‑014, authorizing staff to negotiate terms with the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows for the design and construction of an early learning center connected to the Community Response and Resource Center.
Acting City Manager Lydia Altek said the resolution formally recognizes the partnership and that any outcome of negotiations will return to the council for approval before conveyances or transactions are completed. Mike Worm, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, and Oscar Aguilar were present representing the club. Worm said the organization intends to raise funds for construction and would likely use the TSK‑designed floor plan as a starting point while pursuing a design–build procurement to keep costs affordable.
"Our intent would be to put this project squarely on our shoulders to raise the funds for that. The floor plan design, which is designed by TSK, would be used," Worm said. Councilman Torres moved adoption of the resolution and the motion passed unanimously.
Next steps: staff will commence negotiations and return any proposed agreements to the council for formal approval prior to conveyance or construction contracts.
