Hanover review finds equity gaps in advanced math; Centennial SD to form fall math task force

Donna Colletti, a district staff member leading curriculum renewal, presented findings from a Hanover Research capstone review of Centennial SD's K–12 math program on May 13.
"Since the district implemented Eureka in 2021, there was actually a 12 to 18% increase in our achievement scores, from the PSSA data," Colletti said, noting that while Eureka (K–5) and CPM (6–12) support conceptual problem solving, teachers reported the programs required supplemental skill practice and embedded remediation.
Hanover identified persistent equity gaps in advanced-math pathways, including access to sixth-grade advanced classes; Colletti said the district will reevaluate placement criteria to expand access and will form a math task force in the fall composed of teachers, students, parents and administrators to prioritize recommendations.
Committee members acknowledged the mixed findings: board member Joe Rutt noted the district has used similar capstone evaluations previously to guide program adoptions. Colletti said task-force work will be paced to identify the top three priorities for action and that other recommendations may be delegated to departments or school levels for follow-up.
The committee received the report as an informational item; Colletti described next steps as forming the task force in the fall and using its prioritized recommendations to guide the curriculum renewal cycle.
