The Blaine County Title District No. 61 Board of Trustees on May 12 authorized staff to solicit grants, gifts and sponsorships to support installation of LED video boards at Wood River High School. Kevin Stilling presented the proposal, saying the district aims to raise money through donations, corporate sponsors and grants to install two LED screens and to tie their operation to the district's career and technical education (CTE) program.
Stilling said vendors offer options ranging from modest 7-by-7-foot displays to larger 8-by-16-foot boards and that student-created content and CTE curriculum would be central to the project. He estimated the project financing goal at roughly $180,000 but said the board's motion authorized staff to solicit and accept up to $150,000 in grants and gifts. "We think between 30 and $50,000 a year is possible in revenue," Stilling said, describing corporate-sponsorship tiers and opportunities for local partners to underwrite costs and student learning experiences.
Trustees asked about equity and ongoing costs. The chair and other trustees pressed for Title IX-compliant use of content so benefits are available to boys' and girls' programs; Stilling said the district would ensure comparable content and access. Board members also asked for clarity about where revenue would be held and how recurring software or maintenance fees would be paid; Stilling said a corporate-sponsorship account would cover ongoing costs and that software subscriptions could range from about $1,500 to $13,000 for multi-year packages depending on vendor features.
The board approved the motion to accept the recommendation to pursue fundraising and grant applications for the LED video boards and to authorize staff to solicit up to $150,000. The motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will continue vendor evaluation, refine budget and procurement details, and return to the board for contract approvals and any required procurement actions.
