The Hinsdale Plan Commission on May 13 approved a wall-mounted wayfinding sign for Enclave Coworking at 29 East 1st Street, a second-floor coworking space that will use a pedestrian gate entrance.
Dane Johnson, general manager for Enclave Coworking, told the commission the sign is intended to guide visitors through the metal gate to the building entrance and that a blade sign for the door is already approved. "My name is Dane Johnson. I'm the GM for Enclave Coworking," he said while describing the revised artwork and a secure backing plate to anchor the sign to the gate.
Commissioners discussed the sign's scale and details from the Historic Preservation Commission. "I agree with the findings of the Historic Preservation Commission that the sign is more appropriate to the architectural context and to the pedestrian environment," one commissioner said, and members pressed one minor measurement clarification about letter depth (clarified as letter depth/placard thickness). Several commissioners described the revised design as an improvement over the first submission.
A motion to approve the case as submitted was moved and seconded; staff conducted a roll-call vote and the commission recorded approval with one member noted absent. The action clears the way for the applicant to install the sign as presented.
The commission moved to its next agenda item following the vote.
