The Hinsdale Plan Commission approved a wall sign for Enclave Coworking at 29 East 1st Street on May 13, agreeing the design better fits the building’s pedestrian scale than the applicant’s earlier submission.
Dane Johnson, general manager of Enclave Coworking, told commissioners the sign is intended to help visitors navigate the second-floor space reached through a gated pedestrian walkway. “We’re opening a new location here,” Johnson said, noting the sign will be placed above the iron gate to guide people to the entrance.
The commission said the revised artwork aligns with the Historic Preservation Commission’s recommendations. “I agree with the findings of the Historic Preservation Commission that the sign is more appropriate to the architectural context and to the pedestrian environment,” a commissioner said during the discussion. Staff confirmed the proposed sign dimensions meet code; commissioners noted the total sign height is 15 inches with letters about 5 inches deep.
A motion to approve Case A-5-2026 as submitted was made, seconded and advanced to a roll-call vote.
The approval covers the wall sign above the gated pedestrian entry; the applicant said a separate blade sign for the door will be installed soon.
