School board approves two administrative hires, honors middle-school art winner and recognizes retirees

The Tippecanoe School Corp. board approved two administrative hires and recognized student and staff achievements at its regular meeting.
Dr. Allison, speaking during the personnel report, moved to pull two administrative hires out of the consent agenda so they could be voted on separately; the motion was approved. The board then approved the hiring of Phil Shabey as assistant principal at Harrison High School after a motion moved and seconded by board members. The board followed with approval of Allison Jordan as director of nutrition services and welcomed her to the district.
The board and administrators also presented the middle-school student art award. Dr. Fraley introduced Doctor Reinhardt and the winner, Melanie Barrett, an eighth-grade student at Battleground Middle, who said her entry reflected her interest in Japanese culture. Dr. Fraley said the district would purchase the artwork for $75 and presented a certificate and check to the student.
During the personnel report Dr. Allison recognized seven retirees and thanked them for their service, naming Cynthia DeGoyer (Mentani Elementary School teacher, 35 years), bus drivers Lawrence Cox (16 years), Kim Finfrock (11 years) and Penny Finfrock (36 years), Judy French (11 years), and secretaries Kaye Kohenauer (Wyandotte, 20 years) and Lori Phillips (Burnett Creek, 28 years).
All motions to hire and recognize staff were approved by voice vote. No patron comments were recorded during the meeting.
